Hydro Shield will get your boat on plane faster, allowing you to remain on plane at lower speeds and rpm's. It also improves handling and lowers your fuel burn at low and cruising RPM settings. Hydro-Shield will also protect your propeller from damage due to underwater impacts, and its 316th's marine grade stainless steel bracket system acts as a skeg guard, strengthening and reinforcing the skeg.
Made from an energy-absorbing plastic compound, Hydro Shield can withstand impacts, natural or man-made. Even if your boat strikes natural hazards like rocks, coral, oyster beds, or sandbars, or man-made hazards like lobster and crab pots, Hydro Shield maintains its integrity and protects your prop and skeg.

Just had the opportunity to take the boat out after installing the hydro-shield! I was very pleased with the performance ! Boat did come on plane quicker and was more stable at cruising speed with hardly any porpoising, where before I was constantly working the trim. Super simple install. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Installed on a Targa v18. Impressed with the drop in time it took to get on plane. No decrease in top end performance. Highly recommend the product.
This is the second one I've installed. First on a 200 Optimax and now, on a 250 XS Pro! We fish a lot in Crystal River, FL. Purchased due to Manatees, but saved my prop twice on oyster bars.
Put on the hydro- shield followed the directions to the T. It was so bad it seemed like my prop didn't have water around it. Throttle floored and was going 23 mph, I could get it up to 45 mph before. I hung off the back of my boat to take it off. Unfortunately it was a waste of $200. I had high hopes for it.
Paul, from what your describing would be an install issue as the prop is too close to the foil. We can assist in re-aligning the Hydro-Shield so you get your top end back. Please email us at dmmacdonald@gmail.com with the following information and we will respond immediately on how to wedge the foil (which can be done without touching the skeg).
1) Can you you take a picture of your A measurement so can also see the actual measurement
2) Can you take a picture of your D measurement so I can see the tape from the bottom of the ventilation plate to your measurement position
3) Can you take a picture of the measurement from the bottom of the blade of the prop to the trailing edge of the foil?
4) Can you take a picture of both sides of the skeg, so I can see the bracket in relation to the skeg, the prop, and the gear case (or gear tunnel).
5) and lastly, can you take a picture of your ventilation plate above the prop so I can see what style of torque/trip tab you have on the outboard
Please advise and I will respond back with the adjustment needed, as well as directions on how to wedge the foil
