16 foot Ventura was struggling to plane with 70 hp motor. Was considering buying a new 115 hp motor at the cost of 10,000. Bought this hydro shield instead. I installed the Hydro-Shield on my 250 Yamaha outboard over a year ago after damaging my skeg on some drift wood. After tracking fuel burn rates before and after, I was blown away at the difference. Our range has increased significantly and on top of that, we no longer have porpoising problems and protection from anchor lines, or fishing gear, getting caught in the prop. Everything advertised about the Hydro-Shield has been more than true and is a product I will be installing on every boat I own from here on. Customer service and support is wonderful as well. I just recently installed this on my 20 ft fiberglass Fish and Ski with a 200HP Optimax. It is a stern heavy boat, and the Hydroshield really helps it plane out smoother. I can run lower rpms and stay on plane. I lost a couple mph on the top end, 62 down to 60, but I'm not missing it. Without the hydroshield at top speed the boat felt squirrely, so I never ran it there. Now I can run top speed comfortably, without white knuckles. Even if it never has to protect my prop it is more than worth it for the improved boat handling. I would definitely recommend it.

Love this product, my planning time decrease and fuel efficiency is much better. The transom lift has increased my trimming ability allowing me to run in shallow water. Took off the Sting Ray cavitation hydrofoil because it did not compare to Hydro-Shield

I installed the Hydro-Shield and was able to get back on the water yesterday for the first time in a while. All I can say is "WOW!! What a difference!!". I get on plane quickly and can go about 6 miles per hour faster at full throttle. I am really enjoying this and now don't see the need for trim tabs, which I was considering.

I installed the Hydro-shield on my 18.5' Bayliner with a 4.3L V6. I've owned larger boats that cut through waves nicely, but this boat is very stern heavy for it's length due to the V6 engine weight and a large capacity fuel tank. Hydro-shield has dramatically improved plane time and eliminated annoying proposing. I have not experienced any decrease in top end speed. I would highly recommend this product for smaller open bow boats.

I finally installed my Hydro-Shield on my 2002 Four Winns, Funship 234, with a 5.7 GXi-C motor, Volvo Penta lower unit DP-SM 1.95 Ratio, with duo F6 props. Hydro-Shield company claims that their product will:
Gets a boat up on plane faster - improving fuel economy and forward visibility
Improves performance and handling
Protects the propeller from damage due to underwater impacts
Reduces costly repairs from impacts
Made from energy absorbing engineered resin
Simple installation
Mounted on the skeg below the prop
Fits on all outboards and inboard/outboards
Controls cavitation and porpoising

On my first drive, I did notice that my boat got on plane faster and stay on plane at 10 mph. This alone will save me some gas as it takes less effort to get my boat on plane faster.

The claim of improving performance and handling is also valid. It found it easier to turn. It was a slow wind day so that might of help with the handling but overall, it felt solid.

The claims that it protects the propeller from damage and reduce costly repairs are still untested I don’t really want to test that one. But time will tell.

The installation was easy, and I did not encounter any problems.

The claim that it controls cavitation and porposing is also true. I found that by lowering or rising my trim it prevented cavitation and purposing. Of course, you can avoid these without the Hydro-Shield but with it, it was faster, and I felt more in control.

The only negative I found with this product is the hardware. I believe that a different type of bolts will give a better look and will avoid some drag. I will suggest using countersunk-headed bolts. I do realize that the gain in drag will be minimum, but the appearance of the hardware and finished look will be upgraded.
In conclusion, I do recommend the Hydro-Shield and I feel that I made a good investment.

I just wanted to write and tell you, I am blown away by the change in performance on my boat since installing the large Hydro Shield. I own a 20 foot Boulton Sea Skiff with a 140 HP Suzuki four stroke on it. The boat always performed well, but was a bit slow out of the hole and had a tendency to porpoise a bit at full speed. Now, it jumps out of the hole, no more porpoising, the ride is incredibly stable and an increase in speed at lower rpm’s. I give you a 5-star rating on your product. I am currently fishing off the coast of Vancouver Island where there is a lot of floating wood in the water. Although I hope it doesn’t happen, I am very happy to have the added protection the Hydro Shield provides.

My boat is a 2330 parker pilot house with an underwhelming 200hp 2 stroke, 1994! Max RPM before the hydro-shield was 4900. The boat never could get on plane even at w.o.t. she's a very heavy girl. The skeg was also damaged and bent. Before installation I straightened it out. This attachment added some meat back on it. See photos.

After a month I was able to get it in the water for a test ride. The water was 2-3 ft swell at 6-8 second periods with an occasional 4 ft that hits you. Ventura, ca.

I was on plane at about 4200 RPM going 20kts. My usual cruising was at 4700 at 23kts. When I got to 4700 I was going 26-28kts. What was really impressive is how it totally handled differently. Usually this heavy boat would just nose dive on these swells, even going at them at a 45 degree angle. I felt like the hydro-shield acted as a scoop, letting the boat down gently. For our choppy waters out here, this a game changer! Finally, my W.O.T RPMs got to 5300 and going 32 kts.

I'm really happy with this investment, I'm not even going to try putting a planer board on. I'm happy how it is now.

We are happy with our purchase of the hydro-shield. The boat gets on plane faster and we are saving on fuel! You can actually feel a difference when operating the boat. We have been telling all of our friends about it and plan to order one for our smaller boat as well. They were quick to offer install assistance, although it was not needed. We found the youtube videos and instructions to be enough. Definitely recommend the purchase.

Hugely impressive positive difference! I purchased this expecting "some" improvement. However, my Highfield 310 CL raises to a plane much faster, and with much less throttle. With two people, and a 20HP Tohatsu, I'm easily planing at 1/3 to less than 50% throttle. Boat literally lifts and planes higher on motor!
